Florida Senator Marco Rubio was appointed by President-elect Donald Trump as his nominee for Secretary of State, becoming the country's most important diplomatic representative. Rubio, 53, has served in politics for several years and is known for his firm stance on issues related to China, Cuba, and Iran.
Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, speaks Spanish fluently and has claimed that Argentine President Javier Milei is an ally of the United States. Additionally, he has expressed strong opinions on leaders such as Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Nicolás Maduro, labeling them respectively as kleptocrats, freedom attackers, and drug dictators.
On the other hand, Trump also announced that former legislator and Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard would be appointed as Director of National Intelligence. Despite her relatively limited experience in intelligence compared to her predecessor, Gabbard has been praised for her bravery and fearless spirit, mainly demonstrated during her missions in Iraq and Kuwait as a member of the Army National Guard.
The confirmation of Rubio as Secretary of State and Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence would mark a different course in the Trump administration, following a trend of including members of his supporter base in key positions instead of professionals with extensive experience in their respective fields. Rubio, in particular, would bring his vast experience in foreign policy to the position, while Gabbard would contribute her vision and determination to the national intelligence community.
